Recommended software
To hear the MIDI files, a plug-in is required to hear them.  The standard Windows media player is barely adequate.  A preferred MIDI player is the crescendo plug-in.

ICT opportunities
Pupils could use a sequencer to layer the different patterns in activity 2.
 

Resources
Pitched percussion instruments such as keyboards and glockenspiels.

• In activity 2, care must be taken to ensure pupils choose patterns they are able to play.  Some are more difficult than others.
